Cotton Fields Back Home

16x20 "Cotton Fields Back Home"
Today's painting was inspired by my brother-in-law's cotton field in Alabama. I have wanted to paint this piece a long time.

The original photo was taken at sunset but I love sunshine so much I decided to make it earlier in the day.  My challenge with this piece was to keep from having a bunch of polk-a-dots as the cotton.  I used a more abstract contemporary style and liked how it turned out.

I am trying new things so I will grow as an artist and learning how to convey landscapes has been a challenge for me.  I believe I will try again to paint another field.  Maybe a hay field...I just know I have a lot to learn when it comes to making believable landscapes.

The Green Knight of Destin

5x7 "The Green Knight" Limited Edition
Do you remember the mighty Green Knight that stood majestically on Highway 98 in Destin, Florida?  Unfortunately it was damaged in one of the storms in the '90s.  Today's painting is a tribute to him.  I am limiting the number of prints for this painting to 100.  He is 5x7, sign, numbered and has a Certificate of Authenticity for only $25.00.  I will have him available at this weekend's Art Walk in Baytowne Wharf or by calling me at (850) 803-1133 for delivery information.

Night Visions @ Baytowne Wharf Art Walk

I honestly do not know where this year has gone.  I had such big plans to get more articles out and more paintings done and here we are at Labor Day with only 4 months left in the year.  I have done a few paintings since my last post that I would love to share with you but several are gifts for clients that do not plan to give until  later this year.  So I will share what I can with you.

"Caught Red-Handed" Crab 12x24 Gallery Wrapped Canvas
The painting to the left is one I will have at my next show.  It is a night event, my very first night art show.  I am looking forward to this adventure.  I am excited and worried about how the art will look in the darkness.  I have purchased track lights that will help the art on the wall but not sure about the ultra mini paintings that I have on the display table.  I hope if you are in the Destin, Florida area that you will offer suggestions or just drop in and say hello.

The show is Baytowne Art Walk on Friday, August 30 through Sunday, Sept 1st.  I love the Bay Town Wharf area of Sandestin and I feel very honored to be invited to join them for this Labor Day Art Festival.  The show starts at 5:00 p.m. every night and my booth will be second from the stage close to the Carousel.  If you need driving directions or additional information check out the following link. http://www.baytownewharf.com/event_details.asp?event=33

I will have archival prints of most of my art available if the original is the wrong size for you.
