Florida Sky

Florida Sky, 6x6, acrylic on deep canvas
Today's painting, "Florida Sky", is a small canvas depicting a typical Florida Summer Sky.  You know the kind, one minute there are all puffy and the next dark and full of rain.  If you have been following my work, or know me personally, you know I love clouds and skies with interest.  It is amazing to me how the sky can change from one shape to the next in a matter of a few minutes.  I have lived in several states and even overseas.  No one compares to our skies. That is why I love living in the panhandle of Florida.  I think it has something to do with the gulf stream pushing the moisture into our area but we have the most beautiful skies.  Not just sunrise and sunset but all times of the day and nights (although a fuller moon is needed to see them).

I had plans during the first 30 days of my retirement o paint nothing but skies. However, with my medical issues immediately after retiring I was unable to do that.  However,  I will continue my cloud studies in between all my other subjects as time allows as it was really a pleasure to escape into this sky while painting it.

If you have a beautiful sky photograph you would like me to practice painting, please send it to me. My e-mail address is here.

If you would like to see some of my other sky paintings I will have them with me at the Baytowne Wharf Art Walk, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from 5:00 to 10:00 in Sandestin, FL.  This is Labor Day Weekend and there will be lots to see, do, hear, and taste.  Hope you come see me.  Please let me know that you are receiving this blog post when you stop by.

23/30 September Painting Challenge

5x7 Collards and Black Eyed Peas
Collards and Black Eyed Peas a very Southern dish.  This piece came about because I believe the leaf of the Collard to be just a beautiful as a leaf of a flower, but it seamed to be so lonely without something else added.  The peas would be a perfect compliment.  They were a challenge to get the roundness but finally it all came together like a good meal.

19/30 September Painting Challenge

3x6 Koi Dance
First let me apologize for the photo of this painting.  It is still wet and the light is bouncing off the canvas so badly.  I will try to get a better photo once I have more time.

This painting is in keeping with the weekly theme of "Water Dance" and the poured acrylic technique like yesterday's painting was.  As the paint flowed I saw Koi appear.  I love how the marbled water came out.

Don't forget to leave a comment to be eligible for the Free Original Art drawing at the end of the month from the paintings done during this September Challenge.

17/30 September Painting Challenge

5x7 Pink Float
In keeping with the "water dance" theme for the week, I was drawn to this scene because the way the water held the pink tones.  I think I love the reflections on the water as much as I love the scenes around it.

Don't for get to leave a comment to be eligible for the Free art drawing at the end of the month. The winner will get to select from the unsold paintings painted this month.  Do you have a favorite yet?

15/30 September Painting Challenge

6x6 Red & White Fishing Bobber
My photograph of this painting looks far more grainy that the actual painting, although I am not sure why.  I think I am not a photographer but hopefully you can see enough to get the "feel" of this painting.  I was trying to express the water dance that the bobber makes when it hits it.  I hope my fishermen fans will like it.

Don't forget to leave a comment to be eligible for the Free art drawing at the end of the month.  One of the unsold paintings from this months challenge will be the winner's choice.  If you have a favorite and would like to purchase now, simply let me know.  I can ship it to you.  The paintings will vary in price due to size and complexity but should average between $35.00 and $50.00 each.  Multiple purchases of the September challenge paintings will receive a discount.

4/30 September Painting Challenge

I have been advised the link on my blog will not allow comments to be posted for some reason.  As my painting time is short each night I am unable to look into the 'posting of comments' problem.  I appreciate your input and do not want anyone being locked out from being eligible for the free drawing at the end of the month.  So until I can have computer time to rectify this issue, please send me a comment directly to my e-mail to be eligible for the free drawing.

Here is today's painting:

Bunny Trail

Bunny
8x8 Acrylic Canvas Art Board
Today I am in the Easter "spirit". I love spring and am trying my hands at subjects that I have never tried before.  I was inspired to paint the bunny due to the way the light hit the bunnies eye lashes.  I may go back and add a few final touches, I want to try to capture that moment of warm sunshine on his fur.  However,I thought I would share with you now, to help get your Easter week started with come color.

Easter Basket
8x8 Oil Canvas Art Board
Sorry about the white specks.  It is due to the oil paint still being wet.  The camera does not like capturing the true view.  I guess it is so dark it see an "absence" of color thus making it white.  The photo really does not capture the luminosity the piece has.  Happy Easter!  My the Easter bunny find you where ever you are.
